Better health outcomes for young indigenous people means better life outcomes. The problem is, it’s pretty hard to get young people in general to care about their health. We felt the best way to overcome this was to portray indigenous people in a way they don’t ordinarily get portrayed.
We collaborated with a number of successful indigenous professionals and athletes all hailing from WA’s north. We filmed them doing what they do as a slick music track performed by Rhys Bedford played in the background. It was a revelation for our young target audience. This was not the kind of thing they usually saw in the media. The video was widely shared on social channels and also featured in posters and digital media.
The take-out was clear: Be Healthy, Be Anything as proved by their peers. Those men and women they saw just smashing it in the real world, well, they could be just like them. It encouraged indigenous youth to approach Derby Aboriginal Health Services when in need. Which isn’t just a great outcome for them, but also for the state as a whole.
”Working with Rhythm has been the best experience ever. The Rhythm team were so professional, helpful, supportive and positive. No questions or task was too hard. They understood where we came from as an Aboriginal organisation and took our advice every step of the way.“ Lynette Henderson Yates, DAHS CEO
